April 16, 2009

With so many people emailing and calling, our nurse suggested we start a blog for Logan and his progress. As many of you already know, Logan is still over at Yale NICU. To catch anyone up to speed, he was born April 3, 2009 at 31 weeks 6 days. I was induced due to low amniotic fluid and ultrasounds showing that something was going on with his kidneys. After some tests, they found his right kidney to be non functioning, and his left to be severely damaged. On April 8th, he had a nephrostomy tube placed in the left kidney to relieve the pressure and hopefully make the kidney function better. As of yesterday, the tube was doing its job and the doctors told us the kidney looked much more decompressed. We also are waiting for additional blood results since his kidney is not filtering certain waste products properly, he has a high Creatinine level. Every day we hope for this level to come down. It has gone from a high of 2.6 and is now 2.3. Its a slow progression but its heading in the right direction which is all we can ask for at this point. They started him on breast milk thru tube feedings but he has some trouble digesting it. Hopefully this will improve soon, we are introducing alot to him and he is still very young. He is used to just floating around and not having to work for anything! Now he is being asked to breathe, digest, and stay warm all on his own. Its alot!! Every day we hope for small milestones, hopefully today will be a better day.
